Korea Teacher Exchange Program Details
Long Term Program to Teach English in Korea
Qualifications of Teachers
There are three different qualification levels. However, all teachers and administrators will need to provide English instruction to Korean students and must have at least a bachelor's degree:
- Recent college graduates (At least June 2009)
- Certified teachers that are currently teaching or have recently-retired
- Educational administrators, such as Human Resources staff, Assistant Principals, etc.
General Work Conditions
Conditions will vary depending on the specific school in Korea where you will work. Please use the information below as a general guideline and not a guarantee.
- Period of Employment
One-Year Contract. You will receive a Korean E-2 visa that expires after 12 months. This is often renewable based upon an agreement between you and your school. Schools offer classes year-round, with some short seasonal breaks.
- Salary
From one million seven hundred thousand Won to two million Won per month. (2,000,000 Won - 2,300,000 Won) This is approximately $2,000 to $2,300 per month. Visit this website to find the current exchange rate: http://finance.yahoo.com/currency?u
- Income Tax
Income tax and retirement taxes will be deducted from your salary according to Korean tax laws. (Currently 4-8%- graduated and depending on salary.) During your residence in Korea , you will not be liable for U.S. income tax.
- Airfare
A one-way economy class ticket to Korea will be provided. If you complete your one-year contract, the school will pay for your return ticket.
- Schedule
Monday through Friday, Approximately 25 to 30 hours per week.
- Class Size
8-12 students per class. You will have your own classroom.
- Housing
The School will provide furnished living accommodations.
- Medical Insurance
You will be covered by medical benefits under the Korean Insurance Union - 50% paid by the employer and 50% by the teacher. Payments will be made by deductions from your salary.
Curriculum

after you are accepted.
Procedure
- Complete and submit an online application
- Fax or email resume, passport, and all documents required for visa application (see list below).

A final decision and acceptance for the program cannot be made until all information is received by Teachers Council. Please provide your documents by faxing to 410-990-4419 or e-mailing them to info@teacherscouncil.com.
- Telephone Interview and final decision by TC.
- Your US Passport Application must be submitted immediately, if it is not current or otherwise unavailable.
- Upon final acceptance from TC, you are required to provide to TC a deposit of $45. This deposit is used for filing your Korean E2 Visa Application. If the visa application is not filed for any reason, your deposit will be refunded in full.
- Teachers Council completes a Korean E-2 Visa Application on your behalf.
- Start Instruction - Date to be set by school.
