China Teacher Exchange Program Details

Long Term Teaching English in China

Qualifications of Teachers

There are three different qualification levels. However, all teachers and administrators will need to provide English instruction to Korean students and must have at least a bachelor's degree:

  • Recent college graduates (At least June 2009)
  • Certified teachers that are currently teaching or have recently-retired
  • Educational administrators, such as Human Resources staff, Assistant Principals, etc.

General Work Conditions

Conditions may vary depending on schools. Please use the information below as a general guideline and not as a guarantee.

  • Period of Employment
    One Year Contract (12 month, Z visa that expires after one year. This is often renewable upon agreement between school and teacher.) Schools offer classes year-round, with some short breaks
  • Salary
    To be determined by different schools.
  • Income Tax
    Income tax and retirement taxes will be deducted from the salary according to the Chinese tax law. During your residence in China , you will not be liable for U.S. income tax.
  • Airfare
    A one-way economy class ticket to China will be provided. If the teacher completes the one-year contract, the school will pay for the return ticket.
  • Schedule
    Monday through Friday. Approximately 25 to 30 hours per week..
  • Class Size
    8-12 students per class. You will have your own classroom.
  • Housing
    The School shall provide furnished living accommodations.
  • Medical Insurance
    The teacher will be covered by medical benefits under the Chinese Insurance Union. Payment will be made by deduction from the teacher's salary.

Curriculum detail and activity guide will be provided.

Procedure

  1. Complete and Submit Application on TC website. Fax or email: Resume, Transcript, Diploma, First Two Pages of Current Passport. Final decision and acceptance for program can not be completed until all information is received by TC. Fax Number: 410- 990-4419.

  2. Telephone Interview and final decision by TC.
  3. Upon final acceptance from TC, you are required to provide to TC a deposit of US$ 50. This deposit is used for filing your Chinese Z Visa Application. If for some reason, filing is not done by TC, your deposit will be returned.
  4. US Passport Application must be made immediately, if not current and available.
  5. China Z(Long term working visa) Visa application – TC will assist.
  6. Start instruction - Date To Be Determined.

Visa Process

    • The required documents from employer:
      Original copy of contract between employee and Chinese employer
      Original copy of employee's sponsorship form
      Original copy of the employer's letter of invitation
      Original copy of certificate of company registration
    • The required documents from employee:
      1. Two photocopies of the information page of your passport (You must hold a passport with remaining validity of at least 6 months)
      2. Five recent passport-type color photos of the employee
      3. Two copies of the degree or diploma from University; One should be notarized by the Chinese Consulate (See explanation and consulate addresses below)
      4. Transcripts from University
      5. Two photocopies of employee's resume
    • Notarized Degree
      To have your degree notarized you either take or mail it to the nearest Chinese Consulate. When you mail it you should include a SELF ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVLOPED (SASE) so the Consulate can return your document promptly. We recommend registered, certified or express mail to prevent loss or delay. Also do not send cash via mail.
    • The order of the visa process
      1. Prepare all the documents needed from employee
      2. Teacher Tech sends employee's documents to China.
      3. You need to submit the following to the Chinese consulate where you had your documents notarized.
      * A Visa Issuance Letter issued by the authorized Chinese unit.
      * A Work Permit for Aliens issued by the Chinese Labor Ministry
      * A Foreign Expert's License issued by the Chinese Foreign Expert Bureau.
      * Completed Visa Application
      * One passport size photo
      * Actual Passport
      * Visa Application Fee

    Most consulates will process your visa the same day or the next day. You should check with your consulate beforehand to verify the specific procedures and required fees at the time you are applying.
