FAQ
1) When do positions begin?
Positions are available on an ongoing basis. If you have a specific time you would prefer to start work it is best to begin the process at least one month prior to that date.
2) What is the housing situation?
The school provides housing. In most cases, two teachers will share a two-bedroom apartment..
3) Can I set up a bank account in
China, and can I send money back home?
Yes. Your school can usually help you to set up an account. Sending part of your salary home is also possible.
4) What is the cost of living in China, relative to the U.S?
Most things are cheaper in
China
than in a major U.S. city. Public transportation, eating in local restaurants, and entertainment may be much cheaper. Housing, major appliances, automobiles, and other durable goods are often similarly priced or more expensive.
5) What is the term of the contract?
Contracts are for one year.
7) Will I be paid in Chinese Yuan or U.S. Dollars?
You will be paid in Chinese Yuan, which is the local currency, and sometimes you might be paid in US dollars in a small portion. Stipend will differ depending upon location of program and benefits that are provided by the school.
