Korea Teacher Exchange Program Procedure

Step 1 - Complete Online Application

Please fill out our online application form. Be sure to specify if you want to be part of the long-term or short-term (Winter or Summer) program.

Step 2 - Submit Your Documents

Next, provide us with the required documents, either by e-mailing scanned copies to info@teacherscouncil.com or faxing these items to 410-990-4419:

  1. Your resume (MS Word format is preferred)
  2. Your bachelor's degree
  3. Transcript for your degree
  4. Notarized letter of personal reference
  5. First 2 pages of your passport*

*If your passport is not currently valid, or if you do not have a passport, you will need to budget your time wisely to apply for it. You must have a passport before you can apply for the Korean work visa. Passport applications can take 2-6 weeks, depending on current processing times and whether or not you pay for expedited service. Please check the US Department of State website for more information: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/processing/processing_1740.html

Step 3 - Complete an Informal Interview with TC

If you meet the minimum Teachers Council's staff will contact you by phone for a brief, introductory interview. (We may schedule an interview by e-mail first.) This is not your official interview, but rather a simple opportunity for you to learn more about our program. The Korean schools will have the final decision on whether or not you are accepted.

Step 4 - Complete a Formal Interview with the Korean School

If you are preliminarily selected by TC staff, then your resume will be submitted to Korean schools with available positions. TC will contact you to arrange an interview with the school via phone or webcam, when available.

You should treat this interview as you would any other job interview. Plan accordingly and complete the interview in a quiet environment. (If it is arranged by webcam, you should also dress appropriately.)

The school will want to ensure your English ability, but also your attitude and personality. Remember: Schools are looking for very outgoing, bright personalities who can warm up to unusual circumstances quickly! Teaching in Korea is a very fun opportunity, but it can also be stressful at times. You will need to demonstrate that you can handle all the responsibilities and still be a warm personality in the classroom.

Step 5 - Finalize Your Documentation

If you are accepted by the school, you will need to provide additional documents to TC, including:

  1. Criminal Background Check
  2. Applicant's Health Statement (Download Here)
  3. Long-Term Applicants Only - Consul's Checklist for E-2 Applicant (Download Here)

Step 6 - Apply for a Korean Work Visa

TC staff will complete the work visa application on your behalf. Be sure that you have submitted all of the items above and also provide a deposit of $45 for the visa application. This fee is charged by the Korean government and is used solely for your visa application. Please understand that Teachers Council does not charge any administrative or recruitment fees for your participation in this program.

If you prefer to handle the work visa application individually, we may be able to make such arrangements. It is strongly recommended that you allow TC's staff to file the application in order to provide clear coordination with the schools.

Step 7 - Complete a Consular Interview

Although your visa application should be approved at this point, you still cannot receive the visa until you complete an interview with the Korean consulate. If possible, you can schedule this interview in person. However, phone or webcam interviews are also possible. TC staff will guide you for the correct process so that you can officially receive your work visa.

Step 8 - Plan Your Trip

When your work visa is approved, you can now prepare for your trip to Korea. Read the introductory information on Korea in our "FAQ" and "Life in Korea" sections if you are not sure of how to prepare. Maintain close communication with TC regarding your flight to Korea. You may incur some costs to travel to Korea, but you will be reimbursed by your school after you begin teaching.

Step 9 - Begin Teaching in Korea !

Follow the instructions your school provides and enjoy your stay!
